NHHI Lacrosse

NHHI Lacrosse is the men’s lacrosse team at NHH and the founding team in Norway. After it’s founding, coaches and equipment was flown in from the US, thereby marking the establishment of the sport in Norway. For several years, the team functioned as the de facto Norwegian National Team, and represented Norway in official matches against other nations. The team has grown since it’s inception and is at all times comprised of around 30 players who take pride in representing the Norwegian School of Economics in the fastest sport on two legs.

Lacrosse is an ancient sport with long traditions in North and South America. The sport is played with a ball about the size of a tennis ball. However, the ball is much harder and bouncier. Each player has their own stick with a tight net pocket at the end. Players are also equipped with a helmet, protective cup, gloves, elbow pads, and chest protection. This protection is absolutely necessary as the sport is quite physical. Within certain limits, you are allowed to body-check opponents with full force, as well as hit an opponent’s stick with one’s own.

The sport can be played both outdoors and indoors. Outdoors, we play on a full 11-a-side field with 10 players on each team, while indoors we play on a full indoor court with 6 players on each team. We play about as much indoors as we do outdoors, depending on the tournaments we are training towards.

We practice about 2 times a week, roughly as much outdoors as indoors. Training sessions take place at Stemmemyren and in Lehmkuhlhallen right next to the school.

We don’t require prior knowledge to join, but it’s advantageous to have been actively involved in sports before. We try to participate in one tournament each semester. In the fall, we play the Bergen Challenge (BC), and in the spring, we travel to wherever the tournament takes place.

Although we aim to excel in lacrosse, the social aspect is absolutely paramount for our team. In addition to attending all school parties, we organize fraternizations with other teams, as well as team trips domestically. We also have long-standing traditions with the school’s Softball team and organize various events together throughout the year, most notably, the annual Marbella trip each fall.

Tryouts will be held in the Lehmkuhl Gymnasium. For more information about the time and place check the NHHI Lacrosse Facebook or Instagram page, or the NHHS Recruitment portal. If you have any questions, feel free to send us a message on any of these pages.
